IMPACT!, Inc.'s mission is to foster civic engagement by promoting volunteerism and service learning opportunities to address community needs. The Repair Cafe is a model that has the triple aim of engaging local citizens to come out and meet each other, saving people money by helping them repair beloved but broken items, and keeping those repairable items out of landfills thus protecting our environment. It is a natural fit for us here at IMPACT!, Inc. in Newburgh, NY.
Newburgh, NY is a very diverse community with a strong community fabric despite the common image most outsiders have of us. People here band together and help each other when it is needed. It is a sense of true community that I have seen in very few other places. Come to our next Newburgh Repair Cafe and see for yourself!
Grit Works has been our host since we started the Newburgh Repair Cafe. It is an ideal location central to all right on lower Broadway in Newburgh. Not only have they hosted our events for free, but owners Eric Jarmann and Dave Deleo actually help organize and plan the event. Also on the planning and organizing side is Orange County Legislator, Kevindaryan Lujan, who helped start the Newburgh Repair Cafe and has been instrumental in our continued success.
