MONROE
The Town of Monroe is surrounded by towns that have been holding Repair Cafes for a few years. Some members of the Monroe Conservation Commission were familiar with repair cafes and about a year ago it was suggested that Monroe should hold its own Repair Cafe. Members of the Conservation Commission visited other local repair cafes, we liked what we saw and decided to hold our first Repair Cafe on June 28. While the Conservation Commission spearheaded the event, the Town Board has been very supportive and involved and the event was held successfully in the Town Hall.
Our June 28 Repair Cafe has created a lot of community interest and appreciation, in that it helped a lot of people, mainly town residents, to have various belongings repaired and in some cases from maybe ending up in a landfill. We plan to hold our second Repair Cafe on December 6 this year and we are confident it will be just as successful as our first event. Dennis Fordham, who is the Chairperson of the Monroe Conservation Commission, organized the first Repair Cafe and will be involved going forward. While some of the repair coaches at the first event will return in December, Dennis is always looking to recruit new repair coaches. If interested, please contact him at dfordham44@gmail.com. For general questions or more information about the cafe, please contact monroenyrepaircafe@gmail.com.
